What does a battery storage system cost, and what could it earn in a model?
Cost first, public numbers only. Average LFP cell and 2-hour DC system prices in China are broadly flat on April, and average cells sit about a fifth above last October: cells at about USD 51/kWh, a 4-hour AC system at about USD 74/kWh, and the CNESA H1-2026 average winning bid at RMB 0.541/Wh (about USD 75.6/kWh, +21% on a year earlier). Indicative cross-market all-in references run far higher: a Modo Energy preview shows a USD 201k per MWh global median for 4 hours, and supplier-published European quotes of USD 180-260/kWh are colour only. Not a like-for-like bridge, and not delivered quotes: these figures do not establish a delivered Romanian price, so we give no estimate. That needs a real RFQ.
Then what September prices imply in a theoretical model (Kosmosis Energy report): modelled theoretical gross value of about EUR 24 thousand per MW for a 4-hour battery from day-ahead arbitrage alone (2-hour: about EUR 14 thousand). Assumptions: perfect foresight, 85% round-trip efficiency, at most 1.5 equivalent cycles a day, 0.5-hour reserve energy backing, activation energy excluded. Not revenue, payback, IRR or an annual figure.
