Position as at 12 October 2026

Romania's duck curve, September 2026 against September 2025.

The shape held: the midday trough sits at 14:00-15:00 and the evening peak at 20:00-21:00 in both years; the level moved. The trough rose from EUR 29 to EUR 66/MWh and the peak from EUR 249 to EUR 297/MWh, so the peak-to-trough gap widened only 5%, to EUR 231/MWh. By 18:00 the price is already at 76% of the peak, against 54% a year ago.

The deeper change is physical: average net load at midday fell to 1,260 MW from 3,330 MW, while the evening peak fell 9%.

For storage, the daily gap between the four cheapest and four dearest hours averaged EUR 203/MWh against EUR 159; section 6 models what that could have offered a battery, a historical benchmark, not earnings. For solar, hours with a negative price fell from 22 to 12 (not a curtailment measure).

Caveats: one month, a nuclear outage, 7% higher irradiance, and 15-minute products against hourly ones. No forecast, no investment advice.
