Reserve procurement and projects that include storage are two different quantities, even though both are counted in MW.
In September 2026 the average contracted reserve capacity was 112 MW of frequency containment reserve (FCR), 175 MW of aFRR in each direction, and 453 MW up and 250 MW down of mFRR. That comes from the public edition of the Kosmosis Energy monthly market report, which draws on ENTSO-E data.
The same report, citing ANRE's monthly information as at 1 August 2026, counts 182 projects with storage or stand-alone storage that hold both a connection contract and a building permit. Their total capacity is 12,149 MW. That is the capacity of whole plants, some of which combine storage with generation, so it is not a figure for batteries alone.
The two differ in scope, in time basis and in what qualifies. One is a service bought daily by the system operator, the other a list of projects at a point in time. This is not a ratio of reserve-market coverage and says nothing about what any project will earn. The report itself notes that reserve prices can be expected to move quickly as new participants enter.
